JP Duminy: News

A talented left-handed batsman with a penchant for mouthwatering cover drives and square cuts, South Africa's Jean-Paul Duminy was a star when he was in form. Born in Cape Town, Duminy made his first-class debut in the 2001-02 season for Western Province. He was only 17 at the time. Duminy made his international debut in 2004 in an ODI match against Sri Lanka. He was unable to make an impact in the few innings he played. Until the 2008-09 Test and ODI series against Australia, Duminy remained just another player who had the talent but was unable to perform when it counted. In that series, in the absence of injured Ashwell Prince, Duminy raised a claim to stardom with his match-winning performances. A man of short stature, Duminy was an excellent fielder and a handy off-spinner. Despite everything he achieved, many assume that he was unable to tap into his full potential due to injuries that bothered him in regular intervals. In 2017, Duminy retired from Test cricket, and in 2019, he announced his retirement from all formats.
